Gordon Hutchinson, 86, of Greenfield, died May 25, 2024, at his home in Greenfield.

Gordon Hutchinson, 86, of Greenfield, died May 25, 2024, at his home in Greenfield. Per Gordy’s wishes, there will be no services. There will be a private burial in the Fenton Township Cemetery in Lone Rock.

Gordon Lloyd Hutchinson was born on March 1, 1938, son of Lloyd and Emma Hutchinson in Kossuth County. Gordy grew up in rural Kossuth County and spent his youth helping out on the family farm. He graduated from St. John’s High School in Bancroft in 1956, where he was a standout on the baseball diamond. After high school, Gordy was drafted by the Brooklyn Dodgers in 1956, then traded to the Chicago Cubs and later traded to the San Francisco Giants.

He was united in marriage to Lila Schmidt Sept. 20, 1958, and they had three children: Tony, Lynn and Julie. Gordy and Lila lived in Bancroft, before moving to Estherville, where he worked at Bagan’s Clothing Store, while attending Estherville Junior College, graduating in 1966. He then went on to South Dakota State, where he graduated with a bachelor of science degree in agriculture.

He and the family then moved to Oakland, where he began his cattle buying career. He was later transferred to Greenfield, before moving to Great Bend, Kansas. In 2003, Gordy retired from his cattle buying career and he and Lila moved back to Greenfield.

Gordy loved to play golf and also enjoyed hunting and fishing,

He is survived by his wife, Lila Hutchinson of Greenfield; three children: Tony (Carol) Hutchinson of Greenfield, Lynn Hutchinson of Wichita, Kansas, and Julie (Brent) Allred of Wichita, Kansas; six grandchildren and 12 (soon to be 13) great-grandchildren, seven brothers: Bobby of Lone Rock, Donnie of West Des Moines, Eugene of Queens Creek, Arizona, Roger of Troy, Missouri, Duane of Garner, Dennis of Cedar Falls and James of Fruit Heights, Utah, and two sisters, Judy of Woodbridge, Virginia, and Kay of Jefferson, Georgia.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Marjorie and brother, Kenny.
