Benefit Concert for survivors this Saturday

Gary Freeland, an organizer of the Good News Concert Series, which happens each first Sunday night of the month, is planning a special benefit concert Saturday, June 1 at The Gathering Place, for the survivors of the Greenfield tornado.

Planned for 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., the concert will include a list of five Gospel music groups that have previously come to sing here. It will also include musicians from various local churches.

Freeland, whose home was destroyed in the tornado, said he’s had probably as many as 200 people reach out to him to say they’re glad he and his family are safe.

“They’ve asked what they can do to help, and God has blessed me so very much this week,” Freeland said. “I started to think about how I could help others. I started to think about my Gospel singers family. They just want to help.”

Each of the groups coming has volunteered their time and travel costs to be here.

“I think the Gospel message will be uplifting for people. The concert will be fun, relaxing and different than sorting through things and doing paperwork that has to be a part of this,” Freeland said.

Money raised from the concert will go back into local funds that have been established for tornado survivors and the town of Greenfield.

Sounds of Inspiration of Newton will sing Sunday, June 2 at The Gathering Place as part of the normal monthly Good News Concert Series event.
