Wolverine teams compete at Bearcats' indoor meet

Nodaway Valley seniors Emma Lundy and Annika Nelson combined to collect five top-10 finishes at the Northwest Missouri State High School indoor track meet last Saturday in Maryville, Missouri. The duo were among the Wolverines that helped Nodaway Valley finish 14th in the team standings at the meet that featured larger schools from Missouri, Nebraska, and Iowa. The Wolverines have one more indoor meet, this week at Graceland University in Lamoni, before the outdoor season begins next week at the Bedford Bulldog Relays.

Nelson had a good day in the short sprint events and hurdles. Nelson was fifth in the 60-meter hurdles in a time of 9.97 for her best finish at the meet. Nelson added seventh place finishes in the 60-meter dash (8.31) and 200-meter dash (27.74) for three top-10 finishes. Lundy, who is going to run track and field next year at Northwest Missouri State, placed fifth in the 200-meter dash in 27.53 and sixth in the 400-meter dash in 1:04.91. It was the first time this season Lundy ran in a 400-meter individual race. Both runners were on the Wolverines’ top relay finish in the 4x400. The team of Addi Glade, Nelson, Lundy, and Allie Cornelison placed 12th in 4:36.22.

Other individuals who placed in the top 20 were Maddie Weston, 13th in the 60-meter dash in 8.44, and Jazz Christensen, 17th in the 1,600-meter run in 6:33.49.

Megan McCall finished just outside of the top 20 places in two events, placing 21st in the 800-meter run in 2:55.71 and 23rd in the 1,600-meter run in 7:00.38. Allie Cornelison also was just outside of a top-20 finish in the 60-meter hurdles, placing 21st in 11.21.

In field events, the Wolverines had two, top-20 finishes with Grace Britton placing 18th in the shot put and Addi Glade placing 20th in the long jump.

Boys continue building a good base ahead of outdoor opener

The Nodaway Valley boy’s track team got on the track for the second time in as many weeks last Saturday at the Northwest Missouri State high school indoor meet in Maryville, Missouri. There, the young Wolverines got some more event times recorded as they look toward the start of the outdoor season next week.

The meet was the first for a couple of freshmen for the Wolverines, Luke Kading and Hayden Colton. Kading captured the top Nodaway Valley finish at the meet with 14th place in the 1,600-meter run in a time of 5:24.67. Kading also placed 24th in the 800-meter run, 27th in the 400-meter dash and 45th in the 200-meter dash.

Colton was 23rd in two individual events, the 400-meter dash in 59.20 and the 800-meter run in 2:34.43. He also placed 22nd in the 1,600-meter run.

The Wolverines were without Trent Warner and Ashton Honnold for the meet. Freshman Avery Lewis, who ran at the first meet of the season, competed in the 400-meter dash, the 200-meter dash and the 60-meter dash with his best finish, a 39th place finish in the 400-meter dash in 1:08.73.

The Wolverines did not score in the team standings. The meet was won by Blue Springs (Missouri). Mount Ayr and Bedford were also at the meet out of the Pride of Iowa Conference as were Hawkeye 10 Conference schools Creston, Atlantic and Glenwood.
