Other notes for the Wolverines are that Ellie Zenor, Corbin Hubenka and Beau Antisdel all recorded perfect scores at 10 meters in bullseye shooting.
“I think the team performed great,” Nodaway Valley archery coach Bill Newbury said. “They did the best they could do and had fun. That’s what it’s all about.”
For Orient-Macksburg, three middle schoolers are advancing to nationals. Myka Hanscom placed first among seventh grade, middle school and all girls overall in bullseye.
Eli Campbell was second place among middle school, first among eighth-graders and seventh among all boys.
Qualifying for nationals in 3D are Brysen Shinn, who was second among middle schoolers, first among eighth-graders and seventh overall among boys, and Hanscom, who qualified as the fourth place middle schooler, second place among seventh-graders and sixth among girls.
“Three O-M middle school archers are moving on to nationals this season. They channeled their inner calm by steadying their stances, drawing their bows and shooting for the center,” Bulldog head coach Jamie Hanscom said. “Goals were achieved and we are excited to advance with [them].”
The national tournament that Nodaway Valley and Orient-Macksburg will compete in is May 9-11 in Louisville, Kentucky. See a story featuring nationals qualifiers later this spring.
