Virgil "Doc" Baudler, 83, of Fontanelle, died Friday, Dec. 8, 2023, in Greenfield.

Virgil “Doc” Baudler, 83, of Fontanelle, passed away Friday, Dec. 8, 2023, in Greenfield. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 14, at the St. John’s Catholic Church in Greenfield with burial in the Greenfield Cemetery. A luncheon will be held at St. John’s Catholic Church following the committal services at the cemetery. Father Philip Bempong will officiate the service. The Lamb Funeral Home in Greenfield is in charge of the professional arrangements. An open visitation will be held 2-7 p.m., with family greeting friends from 5-7 p.m., Wednesday, Dec. 13 at Lamb Funeral Home in Greenfield.

Virgil Lorenz Baudler was born Nov. 15, 1940, to Ernest and Lizzie Sophia Christine (Lorenz) Baudler in Jackson Township, Adair County. He lived his entire life in the house where he was born.

He was married to Carol Anne Handley, Sept. 7, 1963, at St. John’s Catholic Church. Doc and Carol celebrated 60 years of marriage this year. Three children were born to this union: Michael, Julie and Brian. He was a member of St John’s Catholic Church.

Doc farmed north of Fontanelle his entire life and was a good steward of the land. He enjoyed growing crops and raising livestock. He began raising ducks in his early years and had many exotic birds including peacocks. Doc and Carol owned and operated Fountain Florist in Greenfield for over 40 years. His fondest memories were spending time with his family and friends.

Doc was preceded in death by his parents, Ernest and Lizzie; brothers: Bernard, Louis, Henry and Ralph; sister, Wilma and brothers-in-law: Doug Handley, Randall Handley and Terry Handley.

He was dearly loved and will be genuinely missed by his wife, Carol; sisters, Sylvia and Ruth (Wayne); children: Michael (Barbara), Julie (Allen) and Brian; sisters-in-law: Betty Baudler, Ruth Baudler, Glenda Handley, Betty Handley and Lynn Handley; six grandchildren: Melanie, Emily, Austin, Waylan, Andrew and Jacob; two great-grandchildren, Addison and Allie; nephews, nieces, other relatives and many friends.
