Cheap Trick tribute band coming to WCC

“Trick Police,” a high-energy foursome, will bring the ultimate in the Cheap Trick experience to the Warren Cultural Center on 7 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 11. Performing in authentic Cheap Trick attire, the band performs all of the Cheap Trick hits that everyone knows and loves, like “I Want You To Want Me”, “Surrender” and “Dream Police.”

Although Trick Police was formed in 2020, individually each performer has over 40 years of music experience. Steve Reckinger takes on the role of Robin Zander, world renowned singer of Cheap Trick. He has portrayed accomplished singers such as Steve Perry of Journey, Freddie Mercury from Queen, Joe Elliott from Def Leppard and David Coverdale from Whitesnake, as well as performing with tribute band ReCaptured and the tribute act Hairball.

Prior to organizing Trick Police and portraying Tom Peterson, Stan Fritz performed in his band Kickin, backing up the likes of Rush, Loverboy, Brian Adams, etc. in the 70s, putting out the album “Starbound Lady”. In the 80′s Fritz formed On The Fritz, which is still performing.

Wayne Fritz performed with the bands On The Fritz and Kickin. Wayne has all the tools for playing the part of Rick Nielsen, even the famous five-neck guitar.

John Kent, as Bun E. Carlos, comes by drumming naturally, as his father played in marching bands, drum and bugle corps and swing bands. After cutting his teeth in young early bands, John joined regional band Justin Morgan in 1982. He then joined Gregg Lee to start the regional band Airstrike, which produced and released the album “Initial Attack” in 1986. In late 1987 he joined On The Fritz. After retiring from playing for a number of years, he worked with his brother Brian Kent on writing a new album. The band 1 Trak Mind emerged in 2017, recording “Brainstorm”, released in 2019.

Indie and folk bands to play WCC basement Nov. 18

Four Indie/folk genre bands will perform in “The Underground”, aka the basement, of the Warren Cultural Center 7 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 18.

“The Underground #2″ will open with Triple Elvis, the Des Moines-based rock trio, who draw influences from alternative rock, post-punk, folk, and modern indie-pop.

At 8 p.m., Joytrip will play. Joytrip is an electric-folk indie band making music in Iowa City. Michael Schodin, Eddie Hochman, Mitchell Wisniewski and Bennett Shapiro come together to make welcoming, honest and colorful sounds that explore the experienced concurrence of our time.

Luke Stutzman will take the stage at 9 p.m. Stutzman is originally from Fontanelle, having graduated with the Bridgewater-Fontanelle Class of 1989. Stutzman has a unique percussive style of guitar playing and a raspy tone that transfers seamlessly into his folk-rock, all-American genre. He is not your typical acoustic musician, with a style all his own, with varied influences of the Allman Brothers, Chris Stapleton and Ray Charles. His rich vocals carry a jazzy soul not normally heard in folk-rock solo acts.

The night will conclude with Songbird Bean (M.J. Bean) from Elk Run Heights, Iowa. He’s been singing Alternative/Folk for over 20 years. Bean sings about the hard knocks one can get in Iowa.

Tickets for this Underground event are $5. Ages 12 and older are welcome. Patrons will enter via the outside stairs on the north side of WCC with ADA accessibility entrance in the back.

Thanksgiving Meal in Stuart

The Stuart Odd Fellows and Rebekahs are having a free meal on Thursday, Nov. 23, Thanksgiving Day, for anyone that needs somewhere to celebrate the holiday. Meal hours are 10:30 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The meal will be at 121 N Gaines St., Stuart.

Festival of Lights set for Nov. 24

Greenfield’s annual Festival of Lights event is slated for the night of Friday, Nov. 24 on the Greenfield Public Square. The theme for Greenfield’s Christmas activities is “Christmas in the Village.”

The lighted parade will begin at 6 p.m. Before the parade, enjoy cookies and cocoa outside Grand Theater courtesy of the Greenfield Business Women and Mini Donuts by the Greenfield Lions Club.

Following the parade, visit Santa Claus in the gazebo at Long’s Park. Goodie bags will be available for each child.
