Tiger Drive-In talks slated for Tuesday over lunch

What are your memories of times at the Tiger Drive-In? They are valuable to community leaders interested in historic preservation! Come to a free luncheon, catered by the Tiger Drive-In, 11:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Tuesday, October 24 at the Greenfield City Hall meeting room.

The Tiger Drive-In is being nominated for placement on the National Register of Historic Places. The application requires pictures of the building and good times there from its opening as the Tastee-Freez in 1961 to its present day Tiger Drive-In. Another criteria for nomination is the significance of “place” in the community. Photos, memorabilia, and most importantly, stories are testamonials to its “value” to Greenfield residents and travelers over the years.

Were you one of the teenagers whose first job was at the Tastee-Freez/Tiger Drive-In? Think about previous and present owners who patiently mentored you in skills such as hospitality, cleanliness, counting change, responsibility, and promptness. Remember all the times the Tastee-Freez/Tiger Drive-In has been the gathering place after football and basketball games; the “reward” for chores well done; or the special treat for Grandma’s birthday.

The Greenfield Historic Preservation Commission, Greenfield Chamber/Main Street volunteers and Jennifer Price, the consultant writing the application, will document stories, articles, photos, memorabilia shared during this one-hour event.

Come to this Tastee-Freez/Tiger Drive-In reunion! Lots of laughs are the main item on the menu! Call 641-743-8444 to reserve your spot and free lunch.
