Have summer plans yet? Here are some ideas.

Summer plans? Take the family out to one of the many family-oriented town festivals and other activities in and around Adair County during summer 2023.

As Memorial Day as passed and the proverbial beginning to summer has come, here are a few of the top events planned for this summer, listed chronologically:

Bridgewater Fun Day June 17

Bridgewater’s annual family night, Bridgewater Fun Day, is set for Saturday, June 17, in the city park.

According to organizers, the night will include a a hamburger or brat patty meal from 5-7 p.m. accompanied by kids games. Minute to Win It! games will follow the meal.

The meal costs $9 for adults and $5 for children.

Stuart Good Egg Days

Stuart Good Egg Days is slated for Friday, June 16 and Saturday, June 17. The theme is that Stuart is “Eggs-actly Where You Want to Be.”

An American Legion meal, food vendors, barrel train rides, a kiddie parade, bags tournament, baby contest, kids karaoke, alumni baseball game and adult karaoke are featured on a full night of activities Friday.

Saturday will include a Stuart Police breakfast, a 5K run/walk, the parade, a record-breaking attempt of the most people passing an egg, a meal by the Lions Club, tractor pulls and live music. There will be live music in the gazebo and several other family-friendly activities in Lawbaugh Park throughout the day, with a long list of food vendors available.

Adair Chuckwagon Days

Adair plans its Chuckwagon Days for Friday, June 23 and Saturday, June 23.

On the docket for Friday night is a critter crawl followed by a kids parade, then a high school flags and dance performance on Main Street. A bags tournament and live music will follow.

Saturday will feature a 5K run/walk, kids foot races, a parade, a tractor/car show, poker run, carnival games, fire truck rides, Bingo, hot dog eating contest and street dance.

Plenty of food options will be available both days of the event.

Greenfield Lake Fest

After a successful Fourth of July Celebration last summer, organizers decided to try their hand at hosting the first-ever Lake Fest in 2023. It will be Saturday, July 8 at Lake Greenfield.

Catch food trucks, drinks, outdoor games and live music from Tyler Richton and the High Bank Boys.

Casey Fun Days

Casey Fun Days is scheduled for Saturday, July 8. While no information has been released yet on the festivities, last year’s edition of the event included Friday night and Saturday activities such as live music, plenty of food, a parade, and a street dance.

Massena hosts Fourth of July

Massena plans to host the Fourth of July this year, which falls on a Tuesday.

Though plans are still in the works, the eastern Cass County community plans a parade and many of the usual fan-favorite Fourth of July celebration activities for this year’s event.

Adair County Fair

The Adair County Fair Board, and others, have been hard at work preparing for the 2023 Adair County Fair, on the calendar for July 12-16 — about a week earlier than usual.

Wednesday night activities include the free barbecue and numerous gazebo presentations, including the queen and youth royalty crownings. Thursday evening entertainment in the grandstand are tractor and garden tractor pulls. Friday night is live music from Nashville recording artist Eric Chesser in the pits area of the grandstand. The demolition derby takes center stage Saturday night. The Wright Rodeo Company is sure to entertain the crowd Sunday night to cap the fair.

Be sure to catch all of the livestock shows and other events showcasing the hard work put in by area youth.

Other activities

There are many youth camp opportunities for children in the area, including ISU Extension and Outreach, Adair County Conservation Board and Vacation Bible School at area churches. Watch for press releases on these events throughout the summer in the newspaper.
