The Greenfield Community Development Corporation (GCDC) gave a presentation to the Greenfield City Council during its Tuesday, April 11 meeting on the current housing situation in town.
The GCDC has long identified housing as an important piece to community development.
Leaders of GCDC gave the council a background of various projects they have done for the Greenfield community in the past and gave them an update on a housing project they are trying to gain support for.
“We asked the city to partner with Development in our quest for new housing that is much needed as past GCDC sponsored housing studies have identified,” GCDC President Scott Tonderum told the newspaper in an email.
The Development Corporation asked about the city utilizing a geographically-targeted economic development tool called Tax Increment Financing (TIF) for this project, which is proposed to be on a 17-acre tract of land located in the southwest corner of Greenfield just west of the elevator, and possibly in other areas in the community.
Greenfield Community Development Corporation and Greenfield Chamber/Main Street are planning to organize a meeting for members of both boards and city council members to become better educated on TIF, its uses and benefits.
