Orient library hosting photography workshops

Photography workshops 9:30 to 11 a.m. Saturday, April 22 and Saturday, April 29 are being held at the Orient Community Library for area youth, taught by Brenda Strauss, a member of 12 years in the Southwest Iowa Shutterbug camera club. She has extensive experience in the Iowa State Fair Photography Salon.

The first session is called “Telling a Story Through Photography” and will offer the basics of a good photograph, including composition, lighting, subject matter and the dos and don’ts of submitting a photo in 4-H.

The second session, called “The Nuts and Bolts of Photography and Your Camera” will help youth with photos they’ve already taken by offering and discussing with them any opportunities where they can improve their skills. Strauss will go over camera settings and other options cameras have to offer, as well as cell phone photography.

These free classes are open to 4-Hers and youth who are interested in learning more about photography. Pre-registration is encouraged by emailing orientprtc19@gmail.com but is not mandatory.

Churchill impersonator to visit Greenfield

Andrew Edlin returns to the Warren Cultural Center as Sir Winston Churchill in the play “Churchill”, which he authored, 2 p.m. Sunday, April 30. Born in Brighton, England, Edlin graduated from Oxford University in 1976 and emigrated to the United States in 1990. Edlin has performed in over 30 stage productions, but is best known for his portrayal of Churchill for over 26 years. His play “Churchill” is the result of three years of research and over 100 drafts. He read over 100 “Churchill” books preparing for this role.

Edlin says, “Something very mysterious and enthralling happens when you play a character like Churchill over this length of time; the familiarity of character, the spontaneity of different directions of emphasis and emotion.”

Edlin previously performed on WCC’s stage in October 2016. “Churchill” is the fifth in WCC’s 2022-23 “Locals and Legends” series.

Tickets are $15 for adults — students (high school and younger) are free. Order tickets at warrenculturalcenter.com or get them at the door.
