Nodaway Valley golf swept both side of a home meet on Monday, April 3 at Greenfield Country Club against Essex/Stanton and Griswold.
The Wolverines garnered individual medals from both sides of the meet.
Ashlyn Gutierrez was medalist on the girls side, carding a 49. Griswold’s Linsey Keiser was runner-up with 51. The Wolverines posted a 234 as the only full team, so they won the meet.
“Considering the weather conditions, I think I played well. It was definitely not the best I’ve played, but I’m pretty proud of how I did,” Gutierrez said. “I did pretty well on my first hole and a couple after that. I think my driving went pretty well today. I’m pretty proud of our girls today. We have a couple of newbies who have never played before and our returners also played well. I’m just proud of everyone altogether.”
Zack Gebbie was solid from the start and posted a 39 to win the medal for the boys meet. Griswold’s Kameron Brownlee was second with a 41.
Nodaway Valley’s boys posted a 183, second to E/S’s 187.
“I felt I did well. I put two jackets on, so I didn’t really feel the wind. I swung slower and the winds were helping me. I drove to the green on the first hole, a par 4. I left myself with a good chance and felt I did well,” Gebbie said. “As a team, for the first meet, this is somewhere to start from.”
Nodaway Valley’s golfers are scheduled to go to a quadrangular Monday, April 10 in Mount Ayr against the Raiders, Martensdale-St. Marys and Southeast Warren.
NV golf coach Joel Klobnak said he couldn’t be more pleased with how things have started for he and Julie Hartman’s teams.
“Even more, I am excited to see what growth we will have from our first meet to our last,” Klobnak said. “We are really working on the building blocks of golf, and I feel like our golfers are finally seeing the hard work pay off.”
