Adair County Mutual holds 135th annual meeting

Adair County Mutual celebrated 135 years of insurance service with its annual meeting held Tuesday, Feb. 7 at the Adair County Fairgrounds. It began as a group of neighbors helping neighbors when a catastrophic event occurred, such as a total structure fire.

Today, the Mutual remains the longest running business on the Greenfield square. Although the office has always functioned in Adair County, it serves eight counties, including Adair, Adams, Audubon, Cass, Dallas, Guthrie, Madison and Union. Nearly 70 agents in these eight counties have the ability to write farm and home property insurance for the Mutual.

Adair County Mutual Insurance Association has served as a local insurance carrier in Southwest Iowa for all these years.

“The Mutual is proud to provide the service of policy processing, underwriting, billing, and claim service, all from the office in Greenfield,” said Marcia Kralik, President-Treasurer.

An insurance carrier is a company who writes a customer’s policy after one of the local, writing agents meets with each applicant and provides their application of insurance to the Mutual. It is very beneficial to have an insurance carrier with these services right here in this community, Kralik said.

Current board members are Kralik, President-Treasurer; Sherol Brown, Secretary; Tim Jensen; John Baudler; Greg Lilly, Chairman. Not available at the meeting was Allen Tanner, Vice Chairman.
