Dennis “Denny” Faber, passed away Sept. 25, 2021, at his home in Emmetsburg, with family at his side. A Mass of Christian Burial was 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 30, 2021, at Holy Family Catholic Church in Emmetsburg. Celebrant was Rev. Bill Schreiber. Inurnment followed in St. John’s Catholic Cemetery in Emmetsburg.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be given to: Abben Cancer Center, Spencer; Hospice of Palo Alto County, Emmetsburg; Horizon’s Unlimited, Emmetsburg; and/or a charity of your choice.
Dennis Faber, eldest child and only son of Merlin and Helen (Eagan) Faber, was born in Greenfield on Sept. 15, 1947. He was raised in Summerset Township, Adair County, and was active in 4-H and FFA as a youth. He graduated from Bridgewater-Fontanelle High School in 1965, then attended Southwestern Community College and Iowa State University.
After graduation, Dennis was inducted into the U.S. Army on April 8, 1970, and served with the 1st Infantry Division in Fort Riley, Kansas. After his honorable discharge, he began a career in agronomy sales and management in Spencer. For the next 38 years, he worked for several agribusinesses and cooperatives in northwest Iowa. After retirement, he drove a public transit bus for many years in Emmetsburg.
In 1975 he married Catherine Marcolini. To this union two daughters, Rachel and Denise, were born.
Over the years he served as a volunteer fireman, first responder and officer in various civic organizations. For nearly 20 years he served on the Farm Advisory Board at Iowa Lakes Community College. As a member of Holy Family Parish he served on both the parish council and cluster committee.
He was a member of the American Legion and the Knights of Columbus.
His survivors include his mother, Helen; wife, Catherine; daughters, Rachel and Denise; three granddaughters, Helen, Beatrice and Edith; five sisters, Becky Faber, Connie (Daryl McGinley), Deb (Darrell) Schumacher, Mary Faber, and Lori Faber; along with many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
