Janet Sickles

Janet Sickles, 86, of Laurel, Montana, formerly of Greenfield, died Thursday, Oct. 8, 2020.

Janet was born Nov. 15, 1933, to Clifford and Lorraine (Mangels) Ruth north of Greenfield. She was active in 4-H, cheerleading and music at Fontanelle High School. She graduated from there with the Class of 1951.

Janet was reborn through the Sacrament of Holy Baptism, Dec. 10, 1933, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Greenfield and reaffirmed her baptismal vows through the Rite of Confirmation May 25, 1947. Janet’s confirmation verse was Romans 1:16: “I am not ashamed of the Gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to everyone that believeth ...” This she lived by until the day she died. She was so happy to share God’s love with everyone.

Janet was united in marriage with Gerald Sickles on Feb. 25, 1953, at Immanuel Lutheran Church. Together they were blessed with four children. Janet worked outside the family home for Strom’s Grocery and Locker in Fontanelle, G&H Freight and her favorite job was working in the hot school room at Greenfield schools. She was active in her children’s scouting groups, GHS Booster Club, VFW Auxiliary in Greenfield and several organizations in her church in Greenfield and later at St. Johns Lutheran Church in Laurel.

Following retirement, she and Gerald moved to Laurel, Montana, so they could enjoy the mountains with her brother and sister-in-law. They enjoyed many wonderful times together exploring Montana.

Janet was a big fan and loved to watch the Hawkeyes and Cyclones sports teams and also the Chicago Bears and Kansas City Chiefs.

Janet was preceded in death by her parents, husband Gerald, sisters Linda Ruth and Karen (Ruth) Junck, brother-in-laws John Junck and Earl Baudler, grandson Tim Wilson and other extended family.

Left to cherish her memory are her children: Carlene (Ron) Maeder, Reginald, Brian and Joel; seven grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; one great-grandchild; sister Charlene Baudler; brother Clifton (Sharon) Ruth and many nieces, nephews and extended family and friends.

Services were held on Oct. 19, 2020, at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Laurel, Montana.

Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. July 22, 2021, in the family plot in Greenfield, with a Celebration of Life luncheon at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Greenfield for family and friends.
