Vaccine appointments now open to all adults

GREENFIELD — Adair County Public Health is currently scheduling vaccine appointments for all adults. Beginning April 5, anyone 18 and older is eligible, insurance is not required and there is no fee for the vaccination.

“It is the ideal time to get vaccinated, as we have sufficient supply of vaccine for our area,” said Public Health officials. “In fact, it is imperative that everyone who wants to receive the vaccine schedule an appointment now. We must continue to administer 80% of our vaccine allotment each week to receive a full allotment the following week. This is proving to be challenging as demand has decreased recently.”

Public Health says the wait list for appointments is not long at this time and most people will be able to get in in one to two weeks. Interested residents may call 641-743-6173 or email publichealth@adaircountyhealthsystem.org. Those wishing to use the email option should include their name, birthdate, town and phone number.

There are a few myths Public Health would like to bust. The COVID-19 vaccines currently available in the United States do not contain live or dead virus. Individuals who receive the vaccine may develop flu like symptoms such as tiredness, fever and headaches after receiving one of both doses of the vaccine, but these usually resolve within three days.

“The vaccines were tested in large clinical trials to ensure they met safety standards,” Public Health officials said. “Many people participated to see how the vaccine offers protection to people of different ages, races, ethnicities and with different medical conditions.”

There had been 2,506 total doses administered by Adair County providers as of Monday, 834 first doses of a two-dose vaccine and 836 first and second doses administered for two-dose vaccination series. There are 1,109 Adair County residents who are fully vaccinated.
