Unofficial Adair County election results released

Unofficial general election results were released last Tuesday night after polling places closed across Adair County.

In a contested local race, incumbent John Twombly received 526 votes to Thaddeus Hawley’s 276 votes to retain the District 5 board of supervisors seat.

Jerry Walker received 624 votes in the District 3 supervisor seat race to 122 scatterings.

Matt Wedemeyer, running unopposed in District 1, earned 751 votes.

County Auditor Mandy Berg earned 3,735 votes, Sheriff Jeff Vandewater had 3,772 votes and County Attorney Melissa S Larson had 3,046 votes.

In the State Senate District 10 race, Adair County voters chose incumbent Jake Chapman (R-Adel) over Warren Varley (D-Stuart) 2,607 to 1,416. Chapman unofficially won re-election, according to WHO Channel 13, 24,469 to Varley’s 14,663 votes.

The State Representative District 20 race in Adair County went to Ray “Bubba” Sorensen II (R-Greenfield) 3,286 over Ryan Morrison (D-Stuart) who received 787. Sorensen unofficially won re-election, according to Channel 13, winning 10,817 over Morrison, who received 4,153.

In the race for U.S. President, Republicans Donald J Trump and Michael R Pence took 2,917 votes to 1,197 who chose Democrats Joseph R Biden and Kamala D. Harris.

Incumbent U.S. Senator Joni Ernst (R) took 2,808 votes to Theresa Greenfield’s (D) 1,206 for U.S. Senate. Ernst claimed victory in that race.

In the race for U.S. Representative, Adair County voters chose David Young (R) against incumbent Cindy Axne (D) 2,654 to 1,262, however Axne retained the seat.

Out of 5,475 registered voters in the county, 77% turned out in the general election for 4,203 ballots cast. Total absentee ballots cast were 2,075.
