Donna Hudson, 73, of Arispe died Thursday, Oct. 1, 2020, at her home near Arispe. Celebration of Life memorial services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 7, 2020, at Powers Funeral Home, 612 N. Dodge St. in Afton. Social distancing will be observed. Burial will be at a later date. Rev. Jim Morris will officiate. Open visitation will be 2 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, with family receiving friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Powers Funeral Home in Afton.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are to the Care Initiatives Hospice, Arispe Methodist Church, Shriner's Children's Hospital or St. Jude's Children's Hospital. Online condolences can be made at www.powersfh.com.

Donna Jean Hudson was born Dec. 25, 1946, in Winterset to Carl Ernest and Merle Maxine (Evison) McMichael. She graduated from Interstate 35 High School in 1965. She worked for USF&G Insurance Company following high school in Des Moines.

On Aug. 5, 1967, she was united in marriage to Mark Edwin Hudson in Winterset at the First Christian Church.

In 1969 they moved to San Antonio, Texas, she then transferred her work location at USGF&G Insurance and was later a stay-at-home mom starting in 1970. In 1971, they returned to Iowa and lived east of Arispe. In 1990, she worked at Heat Tech in Afton and worked there until they closed in 2003 then went to work at Bunn-O-Matic in January 2005 and retired in January 2013.

Donna was a member of the Del Shannon fan club, that she helped start in 1991 in Coopersville, Michigan. She donated memorabilia to the Del Shannon Museum, which was her favorite place to visit.

Survivors include her husband, Mark Hudson of Arispe; her faithful canine companion Julie (Pooh); her children: Cheri (Ron) Brown of Shannon City, Melanie (Brad) Proctor of Indianola; Tammi (David) Downey of Afton, Jodi Jones (significant other Aaron Custer) of Afton, Jeff (Erin) Hudson of Afton, Mary (Grant) Swanson of Afton; her brother Richard (Patty) McMichael of Truro; brothers-in-law, Clark Hudson of Afton, Brian (Janet) Hudson of Orient and David Hendricks of Adel; her sister, Shirley (Bill) Craig of Shannon City; sisters-in-law, Rose (Robert) Harrold of Decatur, Illinois and Katherine Cowling of Orient; 19 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, many nieces, nephews other family and friends.

Donna was preceded in death by her parents, Carl and Merle McMichael, infant sister Nancy Jean McMichael, sister Joyce Patton, parents-in-law Ralph and Marie Hudson, brother-in-law Daniel Hudson and her sister-in-law Twyla Hudson.
