Darlene Mae Hill, 91, died at Clearview Home in Mount Ayr, Thursday, Sept. 17, 2020.

Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 22, 2020, at Slade-O’Donnell Funeral Home in Leon, with Pastor Ron Helton officiating. Burial will be in the Davis City Cemetery. A memorial fund has been established by the family.

Darlene was the daughter of William Arthur and Goldie Irene (Buckingham) Young, born Nov. 14, 1928, near Davis City, in Decatur County. She grew up and attended school in Decatur County. She walked six miles a day to be able to go to high school. She graduated from Leon High School in 1946.

On June 4, 1946, Darlene married Maurice Neal Hill in Atchison, Kansas. The couple came home to Decatur County where Darlene worked at the telephone office before their first child was born. She then became a stay-at-home wife and mother to their three children; Ronald, Gloria and Darla.

Darlene loved the farm and driving the tractors. She enjoyed raising flowers, gardening, canning and raising chickens. She helped Maurice on the farm in whatever way she could, including milking the cows.

Preceding her in death were her parents; husband, Maurice Hill; son, Ron Hill; two brothers, Darrell Young and Don Young.

Survivors include her daughters; Gloria Wyatt (John) of Osceola and Darla Hill of Creston; daughter-in-law, Kay Hill of Decatur; grandchildren: Nancy Hill, Sandra Hill, Bill Hill, Janet Maki, Gina Lewis, Lacey Anderson, Casey Lincoln and Paul Lorenz III; 15 great- grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; sister, Doris Sisson (Jim) of Waukesha, Wisconsin; sisters-in-law, Elaine Hill of Creston, Sara Van Nostrand (Jim) of New Jersey, Donna Roskens (Russ) of Nevada; nieces and nephews and other relatives and friends.
