Creston Farmers' Market (Monday)

The Creston Farmers Market is 4 to 6:30 p.m. every Monday at the southeast corner of McKinley Park until Sept. 28.

'What's On Your Nightstand?' (Thursday)

Every Thursday at 5 p.m., join online via Zoom. This is a casual group to share a love of literature and perhaps find a new book to read. Fish fry from 6 to 9 p.m. at Creston's Elks Lodge, 403 W. Montgomery St.

'Family movie night' (Sept. 18)

Event starts at 7:30 p.m., movie starts at 8:15 p.m. and is being held outside in the yard at Southern Prairie Family Fitness Center, 1201 W. Townline St., Creston. Social distancing guidelines will be followed, noting that grass section seating is limited. Call ahead to reserve a family section, starting Sept. 1, at 641-782-9622. Free movie, popcorn and water, as well.

Suicide Awareness Skate Event (Sept. 19)

Skate for Awareness is hosting an event 2 to 8 p.m. Sept. 19 at the skate park in McKinley Park, to help raise money for suicide awareness and prevention. Event includes yard games, volley ball, vendors, food, silent auction and bake sale. The event will conclude with candlelight vigil.

Tingley United Methodist Church Sale (Sept. 20)

Sale will be at Tingley UMC Parsonage, and starts at 1 p.m.. Several items on offer such as church furniture, stain glass windows, baby grand piano, pews, hymnals and racks, pulpit, mirror, bench, sandbox and toys, several items of wooden furniture and many other items. Tingley's 'crank-off' ice cream contest (Sept. 20)

Contest starts at 4 p.m., Sept. 20 at Tingley Memorial Park. All ice cream entries must be made in a crank or electric ice cream freezer. Entries will be judged on originality, flavor, texture and appearance. Contestants to dip their own ice cream for judges at 4 p.m. No commercial mixes may be used. Bring the already-made ice cream and a dipper along to the park. Bowls and spoons will be provided. The two classes are: Vanilla and Anything Goes. After all the winners are announced, free ice cream will be served to the public. In case of rain, event will be held in the McFarland garage at the east edge of Main Street. Ribbon Cutting for Grand Re-Opening of Cenex (Sept. 24)

Thursday, 11 a.m. Sept. 24 there will be a Creston Chamber Of Commerce ribbon cutting ceremony for the grand re-opening of the United Farmers Cooperative Cenex at 304 N. Osage St.

4th Annual 'Creston Cemetery Walk' (Sept. 27)

The Gibson Memorial Library Capital Campaign Events Committee will be hosting its 4th annual Cemetery Walk at Calvary Cemetery, located at 1419 W. Adams St. in Creston, 2 p.m. Sept. 27. Admission will be $10 and tickets may be purchased at the library. Please bring a lawn chair. Social distancing will be observed, and face masks are encouraged. In case of rain, the event will be held at Holy Spirit Church, 107 W. Howard St.

Teddy Roosevelt at Warren Cultural Center (Sept. 27)

Teddy Roosevelt is coming to the Warren Cultural Center at 2 p.m. Sept. 27. Actually, Dr. John C “Chuck” Chalberg, a retired American history teacher and professor will be portraying him. Chalberg has portrayed several historical figures such as Patrick Henry, George Orwell, the Louisiana Kingfish and Huey Long, to name a few. SBDC Iowa small business experts visit Creston (Sept. 28)

Beginning at 8 a.m. at the Roundhouse, 301 W. Montgomery St. in Creston. The team will be comprised of experts in marketing, accounting and operations and will be offering resources regarding e-commerce, QuickBooks, shipping and business operations for small businesses.

Gibson Memorial Library hosts 'adult book club' (Sept. 29)

Gibson Memorial Library kicks off the first of its new adult book clubs, which will be held virtually via Zoom. September's book is "Where the Crawdads Sing" by Delia Owens. 2020 Virtual Green 5K (Oct. 10)

The Iowa Donor Network is hosting its fundraising and awareness 5Ks, the Green 5K and Donor Dash in one virtual 5K event. The Green 5K and Donor Dash are not just races, but a way to honor the lives of organ and tissue donors, celebrate life and recognize those who wait for a life-saving transplant. Feeder Birds of Iowa workshop: 'Building Better Birders' (Oct. 16)

Ringgold County Conservation and Feeder Birds of Iowa are hosting four free "citizen science" workshops: "Building Better Birders." The first of four workshops, the first installment will include an interactive bird hike and presentation of Feeder Birds of Iowa. Starting time is 9 a.m. Oct. 16. The program for the day will feature an interactive bird hike and lunch ($10 per person) catered by local café Jamie’s Coffee Mill. This program is free, for all ages, $10 lunch. 'Halloween Camping Weekend' (Oct. 2-3)

Green Valley State Park will be having a Halloween camping weekend Oct. 2 and 3. They will not feature public trick-or-treating, however they will be hosting a "best decorated campsite" contest and the public is invited to drive through and vote for their favorite site.

3 Mile 4-H 'Trap Shoot Fundraiser' (Oct. 3)

The 3 Mile Sharp Shooters 4-H Club will be holding a Trap Shoot Fundraiser starting at 8:30 a.m. Oct. 3, at the High Lakes Outdoor Alliance Shooting Range located at 2216 130th St. in Afton. This event is open to the public. The range opens at 8:30 a.m. with the program starting at 10 a.m. Lunch will be available on the grounds at extra cost and will be provided by High Lakes Outdoor Alliance. 'Virtual Walk for Autism Acceptance' (Oct. 10)

Autism Society of Iowa's 2020 ASI Southwest Iowa "Virtual Walk for Autism Acceptance" Oct. 10 will be through an online platform this year. To register visit https://bit.ly/33yMCK3. Creston trick-or-treating (Beggar’s Night) (Oct. 31)

Mayor Carroll has designated Creston's Beggars' Night from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m., following all COVID-19 and CDC social distancing guidelines; maintaining 6-foot distance, candy should be handed out (ie: individualized Ziplock or brown paper bags), masks/face coverings should be worn.
