Creston Farmers’ Market (Monday)

The Creston Farmers Market is 4 to 6:30 p.m. every Monday at the southeast corner of McKinley Park until Sept. 21.

Gibson Memorial Library hosts ‘What’s On Your Nightstand?’

Every Thursday at 5 p.m., join online via Zoom. This is a casual group to share a love of literature and perhaps find a new book to read. Starting in September, a list of books discussed will be printed off and posted at the library to help other patrons find their next read. ‘Lions Candy Day’ (Aug. 26)

Creston Lions Club will be doing their yearly fundraising candy sale Wednesday morning at the following locations, from 8 to 10 a.m.: Townline and Cherry, Adams and Jarvis, South Elm and Clark streets. Sale proceeds go to sponsoring glaucoma, diabetes and hearing testing, as well as providing necessary health equipment to those in need.

Fridays after Five (Aug. 28)

The concert series held on the east lawn of the Elks Lodge features a different musical artist each Friday from 5:08 to 7:08 p.m. until Sept. 4. This week’s musical guest will be Matt Woods. Event sponsored by First National Bank, co-sponsor Iowa State Savings Bank. Proceeds will go to Dollars for Scholars.

Southern Prairie Family Fitness Center hosts ‘Yoga Under the Stars’ (Sept. 1)

Southern Prairie Family Fitness Center hosts “Yoga under the stars,” 7:15 p.m. to 8 p.m. at 1201 W. Townline St. in Creston (meet at the south side of the building). This event is free and the instructor will be Mia. It doesn’t matter if you have been doing yoga for years or this is your first time, just enjoy the moment. Social distance guidelines will be followed. Bring your own mat or blanket, even a friend or two.

Community Coffee and Conversations with Deron Stender (Sept. 3)

Creston Superintendent Deron Stender hosts "community coffees," which are meet-ups at various locations in Creston the first Thursday of the month. The Sept. 3 coffee will be 7:30 a.m. at Creston Hy-Vee. This is an informal opportunity to visit, ask questions, and share concerns. Final ‘Friday after Five’ (Sept. 4)

The final night of the concert series held on the east lawn of the Elks Lodge from 5:08 to 7:08 p.m., features musical guest Treyor Wood. The event is sponsored by First National Bank, co-sponsors Moberg Realty and Precision Optical Group. Proceeds will go to C.A.R.E.

First National Bank hosts community ‘Shred Day’ (Sept. 5)

The event is free to the local community, from 10 a.m. to noon, Sept. 5. at 801 W. Taylor in Creston. Gather up all old, out-dated or unwanted sensitive documents, ie: old tax returns, old bills, bank statements, cancelled checks, etc; and bring them to be shredded — free of charge. The event is a service of First National Bank and Shred-It and Paper Tiger Shredding. All documents will be shredded on the spot. ‘Light Up Liberty Lake’ (Sept. 5)

Join Ringgold County Conservation for a new Labor Day Weekend event: a decoration competition at Liberty Lake. Decorate your kayak, canoe or paddle boat in fun lights and themes to “Light Up Liberty Lake” for a fun evening paddle with friends, 7:30 to 9:30 p.m., Sept. 5. Participants should meet at the Liberty Lake boat ramp just north of Mount Ayr. There will be prizes for this family event appropriate for all ages and free to the public. Southern Prairie Family Fitness Center hosts ‘family movie night’ (Sept. 18)

Event starts at 7:30 p.m., movie starts at 8:15 p.m. and is being held outside in the yard at Southern Prairie Family Fitness Center, 1201 W. Townline St., Creston. Social distancing guidelines will be followed, noting that grass section seating is limited. Call ahead to reserve a family section, starting Sept. 1, at 641-782-9622. Free movie, popcorn and water as well.

Suicide Awareness Skate Event (Sept. 19)

Skate for Awareness is hosting an event 2 to 8 p.m. Sept. 19 at the skate park in McKinley Park, to help raise money for suicide awareness and prevention. Event includes yard games, volley ball, vendors, food, silent auction and bake sale. The event will conclude with candlelight vigil.
