Eight players make all-state softball

Eight News Advertiser area players made the Iowa Girls Coaches Association all-state teams, released Thursday.

Lenox’s TJ Stoaks, Mount Ayr’s Sam Stewart and Creston’s Sara Keeler each made the first team in Class 1A, 2A and 3A, respectively. Creston’s Gracie Hagle cracked the second team for Class 3A. East Union’s Mallory Raney and Kaylin Lack, along with Murray’s Emma Decker were third-team selections for Class 1A. Rounding out the group is Mount Ayr’s Alexa Anderson with a third-team selection in Class 2A.

Class 1A

First team

Stoaks was a leading pitcher in Class 1A, striking out 188 batters, enough for fourth in the class, in 129 innings. She also had a 1.57 ERA, 12th highest in the class. Stoaks double-dipped for Lenox, being a force at the plate. She hit .484 with one home run and 14 RBIs.

Third team

Raney was another force in the circle representing the Pride of Iowa. She pitched 112 2/3 innings with a 1.12 ERA. She struck out 120 batters with a 12-5 overall record. At the plate, she hit .348 with 23 hits and 13 RBIs.

Lack led the Eagles in batting average with a .452 finish. Her .518 on-base percentage was highest on the team. She had 10 extra-base hits and 17 RBIs. Lack was also perfect on the base paths, going 16-for-16 on stolen bases.

During a strong junior season, Decker had team-highs with a .487 batting average and a .524 on-base percentage. She had four extra-base hits with 13 RBIs.

Class 2A

First team

Stewart, a major contributor for Mount Ayr’s state tournament run, ninth in the conference with a .533 batting average. She also had a .596 on-base percentage, driving in eight runs with one home run at the top of the lineup. Defensively, she fielded .951 on 25 putouts.

Third team

Anderson was a strong option for the Raiderettes, hitting .476 with a .547 on-base percentage. With one home run and 16 RBIs, she had eight of her 20 hits as extra-base hits. Playing third base, Anderson fielded 1.000 on the season.

Class 3A

First team

Keeler was the linchpin in Creston’s success, hitting at the top of the lineup. Keeler was one of the top hitters in the state, hitting .609, seventh in the state. She had two home runs with 18 RBIs. Of her 39 hits, 23 were singles and 16 were extra-base hits.

Second team

Hagle was a strong option as a sophomore shortstop. She hit .391 with a .443 on-base percentage. Going 25-for-64 on the season, 10 were extra-base hits. Hagle fielded .853 on the season.
