Creston Farmers’ Market (Mondays)

The Creston Farmer’s Market is every Monday night 4-6:30pm at the southeast corner of McKinley Park in Creston. Follow Creston Farmer’s Market on Facebook to keep up on all the details.

Fridays after Five (June 26)

The concert series held on the east lawn of the Elks Lodge will feature a different musical artist each Friday from 5:08 to 7:08 p.m. until September 4. Levi Smith will be performing this week, with Creston Automotive partnering for the event and donations going to the Knights of Columbus.

Pizza on the Prairie (June 26)

Come to Henry A. Wallace Country Life Center in Orient Friday nights for brick oven pizza packed full with straight-from-the-farm veggies and local meats, enjoy live music and walking the prairie path. Event starts at 5 p.m. June 26. Seating is limited, so bring a lawn chair or blanket. Extra cleaning is being done and social distancing practices are requested. Reservations are required and a small deposit holds your space.

Creston Eagles Club Pre-Fourth Celebration (June 27)

The Creston Eagles Club Pre-Fourth Celebration, 8 p.m. to midnight, June 27.

Sunset Paddle at Green Valley (June 27)

Bring a kayak or canoe and join other paddling enthusiasts for a guided evening paddle. Meet at the park beach at 8:30 p.m. and be prepared to paddle 1 to 2 miles.

Afton city-wide garage sale (June 27 - 28)

Afton City Wide Garage sales for this weekend: Copies of the Afton Star with the listed garages sales and map can be purchased from Afton Star Office, Kansas Street Deli or Casey’s in Afton

Annual Chalk the Town (July 1-3)

Those interested in receiving chalk for the Annual Chalk the Town Activity July 1 through July 3, contact the Chamber of Commerce to make arrangements to pick some up.

Greater 8 and 5K Run/Walk,
virtual event (July 3)

The Greater 8 and 5K Run/Walk is a virtual event this year! Your registration fees still go towards the trail expansion and maintenance in Creston. Every participant will receive a tri-blend race shirt ... sizes may be limited. Follow Greater 8 and 5K on Facebook for more race information! Night Hike at Green Valley (July 3-4)

Hike on trails in the dark and learn about what animals come out at night. Due to the large amount of participation last year the park staff will be limiting the number of perople attending each night’s hike to 15 individuals. Send a message to Friends of Green Valley State Park on Facebook, or call the park office at 641-782-5131 to reserve a spot on the hike. With enough interest park staff will schedule more night hikes later in the summer so everyone has an opportunity to participate. Meeting at 9 p.m. at the South Shelter House to hike the West trail. Expect to hike 2-3 miles on a grass trail. Due to limiting the number of participants they will offer night hikes on both July 3 and July 4.

Massena Tractor Ride (July 4)

Ride will leave from Massena Main Street at 8 a.m. Food will not be available so those interested must bring their own lunch. For more information call 712-779-0032

Future Founders 2020 Day Camp celebration event (July 10)

Future Founders 2020 is a youth entrepreneurship day camp being established for youth in Union County to learn about entrepreneurship in a fun and interactive way. A celebration for the program will be at 5 p.m. July 10 at McKinley Park.

Participants in the Day Camp will learn to turn their business concepts from ideas to reality through activities, challenges, workshops and competitions. For further program information and/or how to register contact Reagan Brown at reaganbrown@gmail.com, or by phone 641-344-5877.

Brandon Gibbs in concert at Warren Cultural Center (July 11)

Brandon Gibbs, multi-talented musician, writer and entertainer will perform at the Warren Cultural Center on the square in Greenfield, 7 p.m. July 11 in the last of WCC’s 2019-20 “Locals and Legends” series.

Brandon Gibbs is a national recording artist and guitar player with a powerful, soulful voice and is also proud to call Iowa his home. His music features genres of rock, blues, pop and country. Gibbs is also the front man for supergroup “Devil City Angels” (2014-present) featuring Rikki Rockett (Poison) Traci Guns (L.A.Guns) and Rudy Sarzo (Ozzy).
