Still doing the social-distancing thing. Haven’t really contacted everyone on the board, because I want them to think about safety for themselves as well as their families.
I will name the boys’ winter award winner this week. With no sports going on, I hope to give the award to a few around town that have really stepped up in our time of need. This could be dangerous, because I probably don’t have info on everything that is going on.
Think safe and act safe.
I think we all need to stay in place,
If we do, we’ll win the race.
This is the task that is before us now,
To this virus, we will not bow.
Last week it was the girls we did name,
This week for the boys, it will be the same.
Some like bowling, while others took to the court,
Archery and wrestling, we have a wide variety to sort,
Some made all-conference, while others made it to state,
This boy’s winner had a season that was great.
Alas, I believe I have found one that did shine,
With this award, we’ll make it his shrine.
His sport involves an arrow and bow,
All season long, he put on a show.
He made it to state and then a step more,
For it was a year, his talents did soar.
Hitting the target was talent, not trick,
Dakota Paxton, you’re our Winter Wolverine pick.
Hall of Fame
We will continue to dig deep into the annals of county sports to name this week’s inductees. These four players were standouts for the Orient girls’ basketball teams in the early 1940s, with all of them garnering all-county honors.
This week’s inductees are Charlotte Pettit, Lois Stewart, Vera Gustason and Roberta Thomas.
