Jean Howie, 93, of Mount Ayr passed away Sunday, Feb. 16, 2020, at Mount Ayr Health Care. Memorial service will be 10:30 am Friday, Feb. 21 at Armstrong Funeral Home in Mount Ayr. Visitation will be 2 to 8 p.m. with family present 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorials may be directed to Redding Frontier Hall or Family Resource Center in Mount Ayr.
Iris Jean (Wilson) Howie was born June 24, 1926, in her family home in Allendale, Missouri. She was the ninth of 10 children of Bert and Bessie (House) Wilson and she preferred to be called Jean. Jean’s formal education ended at the end of eighth grade. Jean and Virgil D. Howie were married Nov. 9, 1945. They eventually settled in the Redding area to farm.
Jean was preceded in death by her husband; sons Terry and Lanny; parents; five brothers: Geiger, Sanford, Billy, Marvis “Bud” and Curtis; four sisters: Mildred Rinehart, Lora Shipley, Beulah Deeken and Margaret Burnett; sister-in-law Aleine (Sam) Taylor; brothers-in-law Leroy (Joanne) Howie and Lowell (Alice) Howie.
Those left to cherish her memory include daughter Kelly (Myron) Schlager; daughter-in-law Fay Howie; seven grandchildren: Shannon (Bob) Hernandez, Adam (Abby) Howie, Megan Meyer, Alicia (Mike) Still, Nathan (Jodi) Howie, Nolan (Terra) Howie and Devin (Lily) McLeod; two step-grandchildren: Nichole (Aaron) Eckas and Danielle (Kevin) Lindesay; 16 great-grandchildren; two step great-grandchildren; sister-in-law: Delores (Jim) Moody; sisters-in-law Margaret Wilson and Donna Wilson; many special nieces and nephews and numerous friends.
