One city vacancy remains

Creston Planning and Zoning Commission needs one more member

One vacancy remains on Creston city boards as the city heads into the new year. The Planning and Zoning Commission is short one of its five members.

The Planning and Zoning Commission holds hearings on possible zoning changes or conditional use permits within the city of Creston and makes a recommendation to the city council.

“A conditional use permit would be necessary if someone wanted to build a residential (building) in a commercial zone,” said Public Works Director Kevin Kruse.

Planning and zoning meets monthly at the Creston Restored Depot when there is an item on the agenda. Kruse said it met approximately six times last year.

Members of the commission serve a five year term. Applicants for the planning and zoning committee do not need to have any special qualifications, Kruse said.

“They need an interest in the city,” he said.

Interested parties should contact the city clerk’s office at 641-782-2000 extension 203.
