Dave Danielson

Dave "Burly" Danielson, 72, of Creston, died Tuesday, September 10, 2019, at MercyOne West Des Moines Medical Center in West Des Moines. A celebration of life memorial service will be 11 a.m. Friday at Powers Funeral Home, 601 New York Ave. Burial will be private. Visitation with family receiving friends will be 10 to 11 a.m Friday at Powers Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorials are to the family to be established. David Jon Danielson, son of John O. Danielson and Gloria M. (Bohart) Danielson, was born on April 1, 1947, in Farmington, Minnesota. At an early age, his family moved to Creston. Dave graduated from Creston High School and went on to study at Southwestern Community College.

On July 7, 2001, Dave married Cena B. Reese in Creston. They made their home in Creston. Early on, Dave worked in construction with Winterstein Construction of Creston. Next, Dave worked as a jailer, eventually becoming the chief jailer and administrator for Union County, being employed for 28 years.

Dave was a member of the First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in Creston, where he had served as a kids’ Sunday school teacher and outing supervisor. He also had served as a Little League Coach in earlier years.

Survivors include his wife Cena; two daughters Shawnee Brammer of Creston and Shannon Danielson of Omaha, Nebraska; two sons: Jamie Vandel of Des Moines and Keenan (Kelsey) Reese of Creston; six grandchildren: Shyanna Fizer, Shaelyn Gettler, Bryar and Brayden Hudson, Brenna and Emma Vandel; one great-granddaughter Aria Fizer; three brothers: Mike (Pam) Danielson of Creston, Terry (Lori) Danielson of Creston and Tom (significant other Julie) Danielson of Creston; three sisters: Lisa Spainhower of Creston, Kris Towlerton of Galesburg, Illinois, and Shelly Danielson of Creston; father and mother-in-law Bill and Linda Reese of Missouri; four sisters-in-law: Teresa (Mark) Grgurich, Cindy (Gary) Dahms, Melinda (Pat) Dimmitt and Chris (Jeff) Mikel, all of Missouri; and two brothers-in-law: Greg (Urselua) Reese of Germany and Wade (Debbie) Reese of Missouri; many nieces and nephews, and great- nieces and nephews.

Dave was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters Gloria Danielson and Bonnie McDowell, two brothers Alan Danielson and Tim Danielson, brothers-in-law Rick Spainhower Jerry McDowell, aunt Florence Avazian, two nieces Kally Jo Spainhower and Jennifer Danielson, granddaughter Sheena Brammer and special friend Pam Cottrel
