Keeton released on bond

Charles Edward Keeton, who was charged in the June 19 shooting death of Christy Hribal, was released from jail Friday after posting bond.

According to court documents, Keeton, 37, of Creston was released from Union County Jail after $3,000 of his $30,000 bond was posted Aug. 30. Keeton is charged with murder in the second degree and felon in possession of a firearm.

Keeton was placed under arrest June 19 after Creston police officials were dispatched at about 2:07 a.m. to 1204 N. Pine St. in regards to a reported shooting. Upon arrival, officers found Keeton – a convicted felon – in possession of a firearm, and a female victim – later identified as Hribal – with a gunshot wound. Hribal was transported by air ambulance to Des Moines.

During an Aug. 9 bond hearing, Keeton’s bond was reduced from a $60,000 cash bond to a $30,000 cash/surety bond. According to court documents, Keeton shall be supervised under pretrial release via electronic monitoring by the Department of Correctional Services under terms and conditions that may require substance abuse evaluation and treatment if recommended during the term of supervision.

A hearing for Keeton is scheduled 9 a.m. Friday at the Union County Courthouse, 300 N. Pine St.
