Charles Edward Keeton, 37, of Creston has been charged with murder in the second degree – a special class B forcible felony – and felon in possession of a fire arm – a class D felony July 31.
According to Iowa State court documents filed yesterday, Keeton killed Hribal “with malice aforethought” and was knowingly in possession of Marlin .22 caliber rifle, despite being previously convicted of a felony offense in the State of Iowa.
Keeton was initially arrested on the charge of a felon in possession of a firearm 2:07 a.m. June 19 at 302 N. Pine St. after a shooting occurred at 1204 N. Pine St. Upon investigation, a female victim, Christy Hribal, was found with injuries and transported to Greater Regional Health before she was airlifted to Des Moines, where she later died.
Shots reported in Creston
According to an Iowa Department of Investigation press release, Creston Police responded to a report of shots fired at about 2 a.m. June 19 at 1204 N. Pine Street. Officers found Hribal, 44, of Creston, who was visiting the home, with a gunshot wound. Keeton was arrested at the scene and charged with felon in possession of a firearm. The incident was investigated by the Creston Police Department with assistance of the Iowa Department of Criminal Investigation.
Arraignment
Keeton, who waived a preliminary hearing, will be arraigned 9 a.m. Aug. 9 at the Union County Courthouse. Keeton was being held on $60,000 bond.
