Weinmeister selected as assistant AD at SWCC

After wrapping up his first year as Southwestern Community College softball coach, Nick Weinmeister quickly proved his capabilities inside the realm of Spartan Athletics.

Weinmeister will be named as the Southwestern Community College assistant athletic director, filling the void left by former co-athletic director Kenny Namanny.

The added responsibilities give Weinmeister a chance to help grow the department as well as take over some new challenges.

“The ability to kind of further my career in athletics and in my department to kind of take on an administrative role,” said Weinmeister. “It will allow me to do some things in the department I’ve never done before. Also be able to be in on some decision making things that will not only benefit SWCC, but the department as a whole.”

His new role – though it will not be under the same title – won’t be too dissimilar of that of Namanny’s from last year.

Weinmeister will take over duties of compliance within the athletic department as well as day-to-day administrative activities.

A new task for Weinmeister, as well as the position, will be undertaking a bigger fundraising role.

“I will have to do some fundraising duties. Doug (North) and I will both be responsible for some fundraising duties from that end,” said Weinmeister.

After being co-athletic director North will now serve as the main athletic director, according to the Southwestern Community College website.

Now, Weinmeister hopes he can continue helping the student athletes around him and assist Southwestern to get back on track after academic eligibility issues arose with the men's basketball team in early February.

“A lot of basically making sure some of the issues we had this past year don’t happen again,” said Weinmeister. “... Overseeing and making sure everyone has everything in and completed.”

Along with getting back on track, Weinmeister wants to help grow the department as best he can and keep a familiar face around the office.

“The biggest goals are just to be bringing consistency to the position and, you know, really be the voice for the coaches and assisting Doug in anything that we want to accomplish,” said Weinmeister. “In the short term that is going be getting back on track from what this year was as well as also some bigger project plans that are hopefully going to be in the works here soon.”
