Creston places fourth in Grimes

GRIMES – The Creston girls track and field team rolled up to Grimes to participate in the DCG Fillie Invitational Tuesday, placing fourth in the team standings.

It was a day of bests for the Panther runners at DCG with the 4x800 quartet of Peyton Rice, MaKenna Hudson, Braelyn Baker and Brielle Baker running a season best by 19 seconds.

“(Peyton) Rice ran a four and a half second personal record in the first leg,” said Creston head coach Clay Arnold. “She did a great job. MaKenna Hudson ran a huge season best and Braelyn Baker PR’d.”

The 4x800 team clocked in a 9:54.12, finishing behind only Dallas Center-Grimes.

Arnold was impressed by the 4x200 team of Alison Worthington, Angelina Chuong, Brianna Fields and Kelsey Fields after a tightly contested heat that had three of the top finishers.

“Our 4x200 was really good. The fastest these four girls have had this year,” said Arnold. “Brianna Fields had a huge PR (26.94) and looked great.”

The 4x200 team clocked in at 1:55.74, 1.20 seconds off a second place finish.

In the 1,500 meter run, Brielle Baker clocked not only her season best but the second best in her Panther career, said Arnold.

“Brielle Baker ran the second fastest 1,500 she’s ran in her life,” said Arnold. “The only time she’s ran faster was her freshman year when she broke the school record (in the 1,500), so that was an exceptional race out of Brielle.”

Brielle Baker’s time of 5:07.58 placed her fourth among 24 participants.

Junior Varsity

The Panther JV squad of Brianna Fields, Worthington, Molly Sickels and Ashley Reynard placed first in its 4x400 relay, running a 4:33.42.

Arnold said he was especially impressed with the JV girls, saying they were excellent from start to finish.

Molly Sickels’ time of 2:49.31 was the best in show for Creston JV, running a 2:49.31 that was over half a second faster than the next quickest.

Ryli Abildtrup also placed second in the discus for JV, throwing the disc 81 feet, 5 inches.

“It was really nice to get the JV girls running some good times,” said Arnold.

UP NEXT – The Creston girls next head to Carroll Thursday for a varsity meet.
