Lawrence Rychnovsky, 86, of Diagonal died Thursday, March 21, 2019, at Mount Ayr Health Care Center.

Funeral Mass will be 10 a.m. Saturday, March 30, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Diagonal. Open visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. with family present from 6 to 8 p.m. and a prayer service at 7:30 p.m. at Armstrong Funeral Home, 205 W. Monroe St., in Mount Ayr. Burial will be in Bohemian Cemetery near Diagonal. Memorials may be directed to Bohemian Cemetery. Online condolences may be left at www.armstrongfh.com.

Lawrence Lee Rychnovsky, son of Clarice Ruth Cabaret and Joseph John Rychnovsky, was born March 2, 1933. He attended Harmony Country School and graduated from Diagonal Community High School in 1952. After graduation, Lawrence worked as a mechanic at Johnson Ford in Diagonal. In 1953, he entered the United States Army and served until he was honorably discharged and returned home to work the family farm.

On Oct. 20, 1956, Lawrence married Retta Sue Young and they moved to Omaha, Nebraska, where Lawrence worked as a mechanic. After a short time, they returned to the family farm, where they spent the next 46 years, until Sue died.

Lawrence was active in the community, serving on Diagonal Community School Board, Lions Club, American Legion, FHA Board and Ringgold County Soil and Water Conservation Commission. He was a member of St. John’s Catholic Church in Diagonal and Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Maloy, also serving on the church council.

Lawrence is survived by his children, Laura (Robert) Forbes, Mark (Tammy Blazek) Rychnovsky and Linda (Bruce) Streicher; grandchildren, Jennifer Kwon (Cody Brenneman), Mitchell Kwon, Brook and Blake Rychnovsky, and Colin, Austin and Sydney Streicher; great-grandson Rychnovsky Brenneman; brother John Rychnovsky; brother-in-law Scott Young; sister-in-law Kathy Young; as well as several nieces and nephews.

Lawrence was preceded in death by his wife Sue; parents, Ruth and Joe; sister-in-law Reba Rychnovsky; in-laws, Roland and Emma Ursula Held Young and their son Robert.
