David Eblen, 73, of Greenfield died Monday, March 25, 2019, at his home in Greenfield.
Mass of Christian burial was 11 a.m. Friday, March 29, at St. John's Catholic Church in Greenfield with burial in Greenfield Cemetery and full military graveside rites by Greenfield American Legion Head-Endres Post No. 265 and V.F.W. Post No. 5357. A luncheon was held at the church following the burial. The Rev. James Ahenkora officiated the service. Open visitation was from 2 to 7 p.m. Thursday, March 28, at the church with family present from 5 to 7 p.m. and a Rosary service at 4:15 p.m. Thursday. David Edward Eblen, son of Hobart and Marguerite (Rogers) Eblen, was born Nov. 8, 1945, in Creston. David was raised on the family farm north of Fontanelle. He attended grade school at Prussia No. 9 through the fourth grade, and graduated from Bridgewater-Fontanelle High School in 1963. After high school, he worked for Pickrell Trucking, hauling livestock to Omaha, Nebraska, and then Schildberg Construction Company as a lowboy operator for 37 years, retiring in 2000. He then hauled Cardinal Glass to Windsor in West Des Moines for Christie Enterprises. David served his country in the United States Army Reserves from 1965-1971.
On Dec. 26, 1965, he married Jacqueline Martin in Atlantic. They lived most of their married lives in Greenfield.
He was a member of St. John’s Catholic Church, American Legion Post and Adair County Farm Bureau.
David is survived by his wife Jacqueline Eblen of Greenfield; son Christopher Eblen (fiancée Kara) of Greenfield; daughter Jodie (Doug) Holliday of Greenfield; grandchildren, Joceline (Curtis) Vry, Madaline (Bryan) McVay, Zachary Eblen, Jennifer Holliday and Jorja Holliday; great-grandson Deckline Vry; sister Margene McDermott of Omaha, Nebraska; cousin Valinda (John) Coker of Norwalk; other relatives and friends.
David was preceded in death by his parents; son Todd David; mother- and father-in-law, Wallace and Blanche Martin; niece Melodee Martin; and brothers-in-law, Michael Marlow and Terry McDermott.
