ADEL — Creston/O-M middle school wrestlers competed Dec. 14 at ADM High School against Ballard, Carlisle, Clarke, North Polk and Winterset.
The 10 Panthers who picked up two wins were Christian Ahrens, Lincoln Keeler, Jack Walter, Brandon Briley, Brennan Hayes, Austin Evans, Trey Chesnut, Chris Aragon and Sam Chapman.
The middle school wrestling team will return to action Jan. 10 at the Burton R. Jones gym in Creston starting at 4:15 p.m.

The Creston seventh-grade boys basketball team defeated Shenandoah, 68-29, on Dec. 18. Cael Turner led the Panthers with 19 points.
“It was a good, balanced effort offensively,” said Creston coach Mike McCabe “Defensively, we played a pretty solid first half. When we are unselfish, we can play pretty well.”
Creston also won the B game, 46-21, led by Brady Burton’s 13 points.
“It was a great team effort in this game as well,” McCabe said. “We really did a great job on defense in the second half.”
Creston A (68) — Cael Turner 19, Dylan Calvin 14, Tony Davidson 12, Sam Henry 11, McCoy Haines 5, Dylan Hoepker 4, Dillon Starlin 2, Conner Wiley 1.

Creston seventh-graders defeated Clarinda on Dec. 20, 35-23, led by Tony Davidson’s 14 points.
“Another solid defensive effort propelled the Panthers in this game,” McCabe said. “The kids have really improved their man-to-man defense this season and I am very proud of them. They finished their season 12-0. It doesn’t get much better than that!”
Creston won the B game 37-31 in overtime. Conner Wiley scored 17 points.
“That was an overtime thriller!” McCabe said. “We battled back in the second half to tie it and then wen on to win it in overtime. The kids played very hard.”
Clarinda won another competitive contest, 7-6, in the C game.

Kyle Strider scored 25 points as Creston eighth-grade boys defeated Shenandoah on Dec. 18, 50-38. Creston improved on a 16-15 halftime lead with a 20-8 third quarter.
“We did not shoot very well in the first half and those struggles led to us turning th ball over and not rebounding very well, either,” said Creston coach Larry McNutt. “We straightened that out at halftime and played much better in the second half. I was very proud of the boys in that second half for turning their game around.”
Creston also won the B game, 38-18, after bolting to a 13-6 lead in the first quarter. The Panthers took control with a 17-2 third quarter.
“We got off to a good start,” McNutt said. “The guys were playing hard and did a lot of good things.”

Creston eighth-graders outscored Clarinda 13-8 in the fourth quarter to pull out a 42-25 victory in the season finale on Dec. 20.
“We played a great game,” McNutt said. “We have been working all year to play four good quarters and the improvement all season was apparent in this game. We were as good as we have been all year for four quarters I was very happy for the boys. Clarinda beat us by double digits early in the season. These guys were a joy to coach. Very coachable and worked very had all season to get better. I wish them all the best as they had into high school basketball.”
Clarinda won the B game 36-13.
“We struggled to score but the as the game went on the boys never game up and kept battling all the way to the end,” McNutt said. “I really enjoyed coaching these guys. We had virtually no discipline issues and kept improving all year. I wish them good luck in high school.”
Clarinda won the C game, 8-4.
“These boys kept playing hard the whole game and were having a lot of fun out there,” McNutt said. “It was great to see them improve so much throughout the season. They were fun to coach and I appreciate their willingness to play hard and listen every day. I wish them all the success in the future.”
