Virginia S. Boden, 93, of Creston died Saturday, Dec. 22, 2018, at Afton Care Center.
Mass of Christian burial will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 3, at Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Creston with the Rev. Kenneth Halbur as celebrant. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery in Creston. Open visitation will be from 1 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 2, at Pearson Family Funeral Service and Cremation Center, 809 W. Montgomery St., in Creston with family present from 5 to 7 p.m., followed by a Christian wake service and Rosary. Memorial contributions may be directed to the St. Malachy Foundation. Virginia Sophia (Hafner) Boden, daughter of Raymond Arthur and Justine (Eichinger) Hafner, was born Sept. 2, 1925, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. She attended kindergarten at St. Boniface School in Philadelphia. Her family moved to Gloucester Heights, New Jersey. She attended St. Mary’s Catholic School from first through 12th grade, graduating in June 1943. She then began to work in Philadelphia at AT&T as a teletype operator.
On Aug. 11, 1945, Virginia married Carroll Boden from Creston, who was stationed with the Marine Corps at the Philadelphia Navy Yard. They came to Creston in December 1945. Virginia was a homemaker.
She belonged to Holy Spirit Parish, Catholic Daughters of America and Creston Council of Catholic Women.
Virginia is survived by her children, Mary (Randy) Greer of Homosassa, Florida, Paul (Kay) Boden of Creston, David (Connie) Boden of Canon City, Colorado, Greg (Lisa) Boden of Indianola, John (Linette) Boden of Norwalk, Angie (Larry) West of Creston and Janet (Nick) Meisenheimer of Greenfield; 21 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren and sisters-in-law, Dorothy Hafner and Nadine Dorsey.
Virginia was preceded in death by her parents; son Carroll Boden Jr.; husband Carroll Sr.; sisters, Dolores McCann and Mary Benecke; and brothers, Raymond and Gerard Hafner.
