Bruce Hodge, 67, of Creston passed away at his home on Saturday, Oct. 6, 2018.

Services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 10, at Pearson Family Funeral Service and Cremation Center, 809 W. Montgomery St., in Creston. Father Kenneth Halbur Jr. will officiate. Visitation will be open to the public from 2 to 8 p.m. Tuesday. A Christian wake service will be held at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday with the family receiving friends from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the funeral home. A private interment will be in Graceland Cemetery at a later date. Memorial contributions may be directed to Graceland Cemetery. Online condolences may be left at www.pearsonfuneralhomes.com.

Malcolm “Bruce” Hodge was born in Creston on Sept. 14, 1951, to Malcolm Elbridge and Mary Maxine (Walker) Hodge. Bruce was raised in Creston and attended the Creston Public Schools. He graduated from Creston High School with the class of 1969. In his youth, Bruce and his family attended Salem Lutheran Church in Creston. He also served on the Union County Sheriff’s posse.

Bruce was united in marriage to Julie Ann Allen and a son, David was born to this union. The couple later divorced.

On Oct. 28, 1978, Bruce married Judy Ann Waske in Creston. Bruce and Judy would welcome home two more children, Justin and Dana.

In his younger years, Bruce worked at Skelly’s, Purolator, Wellmans, Martin Brothers and Lil’ Duffer. He then worked for the city of Creston as superintendent of Graceland Cemetery for 35 years, from 1980 until his retirement in 2015. During many of those years, he also oversaw the Creston Airport and Creston Animal Control department. Bruce will be missed by all who knew and loved him.

Bruce is survived by his loving wife of nearly 40 years, Judy Hodge of Creston; three children, David (Melissa) Hodge of West Des Moines, Justin Hodge of Creston and Dana (Shaun) Larson of Clearfield; three grandchildren, Logan Hodge, Chloe Hodge and Brock Eagan; his brother Robert (Becky) Hodge of Logan; two sisters, Jacqueline Bonus of Creston and Linda McIntyre of Ogden; mother-in-law Joan Waske of Afton; five brothers-in-law, Kevin Waske of London Mills, Illinois, Tim (Tawny) Waske of Creston, Bill Waske of Creston, Bob (Autumn) Waske of Creston and Marty Waske of Afton; five sisters-in-law, Lisa (Greg) Boden of Indianola, Amy (Kevin) Bishop of Carlisle, Eva (Igor) Takacs of Leon, Mary (Frank) LaClair of Plattsmouth, Nebraska, and Jane Waske of Kansas City, Missouri; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Preceding Bruce in death were his parents; father-in-law Joseph Waske; two brothers-in-law, Frances Bonus and Tim McIntyre; and a niece Angela Hodge.
