Don L. Culver, 87, of Greenfield died Wednesday, Aug. 29, 2018, at Greenfield Rehabilitation and Health Care Center in Greenfield.

Celebration of life services were 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 4, at Greenfield United Methodist Church with burial in Greenfield Cemetery with full military graveside rites by Greenfield American Legion Head-Endres Post No. 265 and V.F.W. No. 5357. The Rev. Eric Schubert officiated the service. Visitation with family present was from 2 to 4 p.m. Monday, Sept. 3, at Steen Funeral Home, 101 SE Fourth St., in Greenfield. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Don Culver memorial fund to be determined later. Don Leo Culver, son of Orace and Rosa (Starr) Culver, was born Sept. 27, 1930, in rural Greenfield. Following a country school education, he graduated from Greenfield High School in 1948. Via the draft, Don was chosen for the U.S. Marine Corps and completed basic ground training in San Diego, California.

On April 15, 1952, he married Wilma Mae Keltner. They left for his assignment at Camp Pendleton in Oceanside, California. Later, he was stationed in Japan during the Korean War. He served in active duty for two years.

Don and Wilma made themselves a home on the farm. Don was a lifetime farmer of corn, beans, hay, oats, cattle and hogs. He served on ACS committee for 16 years. He was also a member of Farmer’s Co-op Board of Directors, as well as Adair County Extension Council. For three decades, he sold DeKalb seed corn.

Don is survived by his wife of 66 years, Wilma of Greenfield; daughters, Linda (Steven) Wolfe of Greenfield and Karen (Gary) Verploegh of Fremont; grandchildren, Phylisha Wolfe of Minden, Stacy Wolfe of Pueblo, Colorado, Dennis (Courtney) Culver of Ankeny, Mindy (Brad) Wilken of Oskaloosa, Darci (Andy) Reyerson of Somerset, Wisconsin, and Jill (Brad) McMahan of Oskaloosa; eight great-grandchildren as well as other relatives and friends.

Don was preceded in death by his parents; sister Velma Van Der Veer; parents-in-law, H.H. and Bernice Keltner; brothers-in-law, Merle Wasson and Leonard Keltner; son Daryl Culver and grandson James Wolfe.
