Jo Ann Huey, 89, of Clear Lake died Tuesday, June 26, 2018, at Muse-Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City.

A memorial service will be 11 a.m. Friday, June 29, at Zion Lutheran Church, 112 N. Fourth St., in Clear Lake with the Rev. Al Berg officiating. Inurnment will be in Clear Lake Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. The family suggests memorial contributions to Hospice of North Iowa. Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, 101 N. Jo Ann was born June 17, 1929, the daughter of Dr. Joseph “Doc” and Hazel (Canon) Lerdal, DVM, in Dumont. She married Duane “Pete” Huey on Feb. 1, 1948, at Clear Lake United Methodist Church. The family moved with Pete’s job throughout Iowa, including Creston and Glenwood, before returning to Pete’s hometown of Clear Lake in 1971.

A graduate of Dumont High School, Jo Ann furthered her education in airline communication in Omaha, Nebraska. While in Creston, Jo Ann worked at Creston Chamber of Commerce and Franklin Elementary School, sang in the Creston Women’s Chorus and was a member of Creston First United Methodist Church. After various jobs, she worked most of her career as a secretary for Clear Lake School District.

Jo Ann was a former member of Clear Lake United Methodist Church, and member of Zion Lutheran Church, where she taught Sunday School, sang in the choir and was on the wedding committee. She was also a member of Beta Sigma Phi and charter member of Hospice of North Iowa, where she proudly volunteered her time.

Jo Ann’s greatest love was her family and spending time with them. She enjoyed attending her grandchildren’s performances and sporting events, sewing, reading and watching the Chicago Cubs, boxing and roller derby.

Jo Ann is survived by seven children, Denise (David) Clipperton of Cedar Falls, Daniel (Kathy) Huey of Atlantic, Dawn (Larry) Richardson of Creston, Duane (Nadine) Huey of Grants Pass, Oregon, David (Donna) Huey of Yachats, Oregon, Drew “Tim” (Mary) Huey of Nora Springs and Dustin (fiancée Heather Datema) Huey of Clear Lake; 16 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; sister Judy Somers of Burnsville, Minnesota; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; two sisters, Terry Sue Jennings and Javotte Gorton; and brother-in-law Jerry Gorton.
