The 12th annual Party in the Park opens 6 p.m. Saturday June 23, with local band Breakaway kicking off the night at 7 p.m.
“Each of the bands has a local tie this year,” said Sam Baird, Creston Parks and Recreation volunteer.
Breakaway, fronted by Lenox resident and Greater Regional employee Morgan Thompson, is a country rock cover band.
Southwestern Community College alumnus James Biehn of the James Biehn Band is also on the lineup for Party in the Park. Biehn was voted best local musician by Des Moines City View Magazine in 2018.
Headlining the event is alt-rock band 35th & Taylor, featuring drummer Max Miller, formerly of Creston. The band, which originates in the Midwest, offers an alternative rock sound with a heavy blues influence. The band blends classic and contemporary sounds with influences derived from the Black Keys, White Stripes, Grace Potter, and Joss Stone among others.
“It’s a really different line up than what we’ve had in the past,” said Baird. “So, I’m excited.”
