Wendell Wilson, 92, of Afton died Saturday, April 21, 2018, at Afton Care Center in Afton.

A celebration of life service will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, April 25, at Afton United Methodist Church. The Rev. Joel Sutton and the Rev. Jim Morris will officiate. Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery, south of Creston. Open visitation will be from 2 to 7 p.m. Tuesday with family present from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Powers Funeral Home, 601 New York Ave., in Creston. Memorials are to Afton United Methodist Church. Wendell Gene Wilson, son of Mildred M. (Keim) Wilson and Harry Rowland Wilson, was born Oct. 25, 1925, in Shannon City. Wendell attended Arispe Schools, where he graduated in 1943. After graduation, he farmed with his parents at the Shannon City farm, later moving with them to a farm south of Creston.

On Nov. 4, 1948, Wendell married Evelyn Lucille Fluckey at her parents’ home in Afton. They continued to farm on the farm south of Creston with Wendell’s parents. In 1951, they moved to a farm southwest of Afton, where they lived and farmed for the next 26 years. In 1977, they moved to their current farm on 205th Street, retiring after 60 years of farming. Lucille died in September 2012.

Wendell was a member of Afton United Methodist Church, Creston Lions Club, Farm Bureau and Union County Cattlemen. He also served as a Highland Township trustee for many years, as well as, on the County School Board Education Counsel.

Wendell is survived by his son Steven (Cindy) Wilson of Afton; daughter Sheila (Kenny) Brown of Afton; foreign exchange student Susanne (Ecki) Mross of Dorsdef, Germany; sister-in-law Maurine Vogel of North Branch, Minnesota; grandchildren, Jeremy Wilson of Bloomington, Illinois, Jarrad Wilson of Creston, Dusty (Lisa) Brown of Afton, Megan (Drew) Floyd of Afton, Eike Mross and Jannes Mross, both of Dorsdef, Germany; and great-grandchildren, Samuel Simpson, Drake and Hayden Wilson, Braxton and Bryson Brown and Krue Floyd.

Wendell was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Lauren Wilson and Duane Wilson; and sister Viva Tuttle.
