Carol Schad

Carol Lee Schad, age 66, of Shell Knob, Missouri, formerly of Cumming, passed away Tuesday, March 27, 2018, at her home with her husband, children and son-in-law by her side.

Carol was born Feb. 28, 1952, in Winterset, the daughter of Stanley and Charlotte (Spencer) Smith. She grew up and graduated from high school in southwestern Iowa. Carol was united in marriage to her high school sweetheart, Gary R. Schad, in Creston on Oct. 18, 1970.

Survivors include her husband Gary; daughter Cherity Gabrielle and her husband John of Kennesaw, Georgia; son Dennis “DJ” Schad of Urbandale; sister Gayle Jordan and her husband Larry of Des Moines; brother Stan L. Smith and his wife Barb of Sanibel Island, Florida; sister Cheryl Jane Shanks and her husband Randy of Des Moines; six grandchildren, Megan, Jessica, Brandon, Sarah, Isabelle “Izzy” and Joseph “Joe;” one step-granddaughter Charlotte “Charlie;” Carol’s best lifelong friend Melody Black and her husband Randy of Orlando, Florida; as well as many other family members and friends.

Preceding her in death were her parents; sister Charlene and sister Merry Ann Trevillyan and her husband John Trevillyan of Des Moines.

Carol was very proud of her family and computer tech career of more than 20 years with the state of Iowa, and the college courses she completed to attain her goals. Carol was full of life and laughter. She always made sure her family was healthy and happy. Carol had a big heart and a fondness for animals.

A celebration of life will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, April 21, at the First United Methodist Church in Winterset. No flowers requested. Any memorials will go to an animal shelter.
