Shirley Snodgrass, 93, of Creston died Saturday, March 10, 2018, at Crest Haven Care Center.
Services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday, March 14, at First Christian Church in Creston. The Rev. Tony Thurston will officiate. Visitation with family present will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Pearson Family Funeral Service and Cremation Center, 809 W. Montgomery St., in Creston. Interment will be in Graceland Cemetery. Shirley Drusilla Snodgrass, daughter of Buell “Clyde” Adams and Lela Martha (Rogers) Adams, was born June 28, 1924, in Winterset. The family moved to Creston, and Shirley graduated from Creston High School with the class of 1942. During high school, Shirley worked for her father at the United Food Store and later for JC Penney and S&L Department Store in Creston.
On March 19, 1944, Shirley married Wayne Eugene “Hop” Snodgrass in Creston. Shirley began working full time at Midwest Credit in Creston, where she worked for more than 10 years until 1969. Shirley and Hop then purchased the business and changed the name to Community Credit Services. She continued to operate her business until her retirement. Shirley then worked as the secretary at First Christian Church for several years. She sold antiques at her store, Grandma’s Attic Antiques.
Shirley was a lifelong member of First Christian Church, where she was a Sunday school teacher and youth group leader for many years and served as an Elder and Deacon. Shirley was active in BPW and Daughters of the American Revolution.
Shirley is survived by her daughter Sue (Steve) Tilley of Creston; son Bob (LouAnn) Snodgrass of Creston; grandchildren, Jodi Tilley Johnson, Jeff Tilley, Adam Snodgrass and Sean Snodgrass; great-grandchildren, Katie Adair, Chelsea Johnson, Wyatt Ray, George Tilley, Addison Snodgrass, Aiden Snodgrass, Emma Snodgrass and Bennett Snodgrass; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Shirley was preceded in death by her husband Hop Snodgrass; brother Carl Adams; sister Eileen McCann; parents; sister-in-law Elda Adams, brother-in-law Vince McCann and niece, Judy (Dwayne) (Adams) Crigger.
