Donald Roan, 82, of Afton died Saturday, March 3, 2018, at Creston Specialty Care in Creston.
Celebration of life memorial services will be 10 a.m. March 24 at Afton Community Center. Military honors will be provided by Theodore J. Marten's VFW Post No. 1797 of Creston and Afton. In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been made for Afton Fire and Rescue in Don Roan's name. Online condolences may be left at www.powersfh.com.
Donald Elvin Roan, son of Raymond and Mary Adalade (Eischen) Roan, was born May 3, 1935, in Union County. Don grew up in Union County. He graduated from Thayer High School with the class of 1953. Don was later drafted into the United States Army, serving two years during the Korean War.
On Sept. 22, 1963, Don married Connie Sue Moore. They lived their lives in Afton, where Don worked for Afton Farmer’s Co-op for 35 years. He retired in April of 1997.
Don is survived by his wife Connie; daughter Christine (Troy) Reed of Urbandale; son Danial of Thayer; grandchildren, Patrick (wife Amanda Beede) Harden of Urbandale, Jesse Roan of Creston, Benjamin Roan of Thayer and Emma Roan of Thayer; great-grandchildren, Ella and Eli Harden of Urbandale; sister Marjorie (Pete) Repplinger of Creston; brothers-in-law, Bob (wife Janet Fry) Moore of Nodaway and Wayne (wife Mary Paardekooper) Moore of Afton; along with several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Don was preceded in death by his parents; mother- and father-in-law, Hallie and Elma (Willey) Moore; brother Richard (Vera Jane (Eckels)) Roan; sister Marilyn (Harry) Clark and daughter-in-law Amy (Berry) Roan.
