Max DeVore, 91, of Lenox, formerly of Corning, died Sunday, Feb. 25, 2018, at Vintage Park in Lenox.
Funeral services will be 11:30 a.m. Thursday, March 1, at Pearson Family Funeral Service and Cremation Center, 701 Seventh St., in Corning with the Rev. Ray McCalla officiating. Interment will be in Prairie Rose Cemetery in Corning. Military honors will be provided by Corning American Legion OURCQ Post No. 117. Open visitation will be from 1 to 7 p.m. with family present from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 28, at the funeral home. Max Eugene DeVore, son of Guy Alan and Bessie (Falconer) DeVore, was born May 13, 1926, near Massena in Cass County. He received his early education at Victoria No. 8 and Massena High School. The family moved to Quincy Township in Adams County in 1942. Max finished high school in Corning, and graduated with the class of 1944. Max served his country by joining the United States Air Force on July 18, 1944. He was stationed stateside during WWII and was honorably discharged Dec. 15, 1945.
On July 25, 1946, Max married Joyce Marilyn Schaffer at the Corning Federated Church. Max was a farmer his entire life. He farmed in Quincy Township until 1957, at which time the family moved to northern Iowa where he farmed in Butler and Bremer counties until 1972. The family then moved to their present farm in Prescott Township.
Max was a member of Corning American Legion, Creston VFW and Corning First Presbyterian Church.
Max is survived by his wife Joyce of Lenox; children, Richard (Diane) DeVore of New Sharon, Janice (Bunny) Lee of Bellevue, Washington, Randy (Sheila) DeVore of Prescott and Mark DeVore of Corning; 11 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Max was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Ralph, Arlie, Norville, Loren and W.L. “Slim” Devore and twin sister Marjorie DeBolt.
