Richard Neal, 83, of Orient died Tuesday, Jan. 30, 2018, at Iowa Veterans Home in Marshalltown.
Graveside services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 6, at Iowa Veterans Cemetery in Van Meter with a luncheon immediately following at American Legion Post No. 403 in Van Meter. Full military graveside rites will be conducted by American Legion Post No. 403. Visitation with family present will be from 4 to 6 p.m. Monday, Feb. 5, at Steen Funeral Home, 101 SE Fourth St., in Greenfield. Richard Dean Neal, son of Maurice M. and Zedonna (Rawson) Neal, was born April 3, 1934, in Dexter. Dick grew up and attended school in Dexter. He enlisted in the United States Marines on June 25, 1951, and was discharged on April 2, 1954.
He married Bonnie Auringer, and they later divorced. Dick was a machinist and worked for Ordance Automotive, Lockheed-Mattin in Los Angeles, California, and also for Meredith Printing. He then drove trucks for Snyder Trucking, in addition to other trucking companies.
Richard was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars.
Richard is survived by his daughter Joyce Robinson of Santan Valley, Arizona; sons, Louis (Hazel) Neal of Albany, Georgia, and Richard Daniel (Sue) Neal of Des Moines; sister Emily Sulgrove of Dexter; sister-in-law Shirley Neal; grandchildren, Chris, David and Amanda Robinson, Jake and Steven Lucas and Sarah and Anna Neal; great-grandchildren, Damian, Dominic and Daijah Thompson; great-great-grandchild Bexley Thompson; other relatives and friends.
Richard was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Craig Neal, Jim Neal and Robert Neal.
