Kenneth Miller, 88, of Kent died Friday, Dec. 29, 2017, at Alegent Creighton Mercy Hospital in Corning.
Celebration of life services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 4, at Pearson Family Funeral Service and Cremation Center, 809 W. Montgomery St., in Creston. Visitation will be from 2 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 3, with family present from 5 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home. Interment will be in Evergreen Cemetery at Jerusalem United Methodist Church, northeast of Creston. The Rev. Stephen Miller and the Rev. Jason Miller will co-officiate. Kenneth Karl Miller, son of Glenn Elmer Miller and Irene Mae (Adamson) Miller, was born at home on the family farm in Union County. Kenny attended country school through the eighth grade and then Creston High School, graduating with the class of 1947.
On Aug. 24, 1948, Kenny married Colleen Mae Mayne in Hiawatha, Kansas. In 1952, Kenny joined the United States Army. He served his country during the Korean Conflict and was stationed in Germany after his basic training. He received his honorable discharge in 1954. Upon his return to civilian life, Kenny returned home and began farming. The couple farmed in both Union and Adams counties most of Kenny’s life, with several years farming near Winterset. Kenny raised and fed cattle and hogs, and grew corn, soybeans and other crops.
Kenny was a longtime member of Elks Lodge.
Kenny is survived by his wife of 69 years, Colleen Miller of Kent; children, Rodney (Roxanne) Miller of Galesburg, Illinois, Craig (Teresa) Miller of Gardner, Colorado, Terri (Benjamin) Chait of Iowa City, Cyndy (Daryl) Hinton of Postville and Dan (Sue) Miller of Lenox; grandchildren, Jason, Derek, Nathan, Stephen, Matthew, Sarah, Amy and Abbie; Joram, Ian, Seth and Shem; Jess and Chris; Luke and Cayley; Jacob, Amber and Jordan; 30 great-grandchildren; brothers-in-law, Gerald Mayne and Gilmer (Reffa) Mayne, both of Creston and sister-in-law Sheryl Wilkie of Sacramento, California.
Kenny was preceded in death by his sister Phyllis; infant brother Dean; parents and mother- and father-in-law, Ruby and Eldon Mayne.
