Ronald R. Scarberry, 65, of Afton died Saturday, Nov. 11, 2017.

Celebration of life services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 15, at Powers Funeral Home, junction of highways 34 and 25, in Creston. The Rev. Rick Titus will officiate. Burial will be in Greenlawn Cemetery, east of Afton. Military flag presentation will be performed by Theodore J. Martens Post No. 1797, Creston V.F.W. Visitation with family present will be from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Wednesday before the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the family. Ronald Russell Scarberry, son of Edna M. (Paullin) Scarberry and Olen Russell Scarberry, was born Jan. 17, 1952, in Osceola. He graduated from East Union High School in 1970. He enlisted with the Army National Guard, and trained in Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri.

In 1970, Ron married Toni Gonzales in Maryville, Missouri. They later divorced. Ron began working with the railroad, operating a crane and other heavy equipment and supervising for more than 19 years, retiring in the 1990s.

Ron is survived by his daughter Brandy of Arkansas; son Jon Wayne Hickman of Omaha, Nebraska; mother Edna Johnson of Afton; grandson Dylan; sisters, Patricia (Butch) Brittan of Redding, California, Della (Marvin) Orndorff of Princeton, Missouri, Connie (Tom) Brown of Creston, Rhonda (Erv) Falk of Gold Hill, Oregon, and Cindy (Doug) Sleep of Bedford; brothers, Randy and Rick Scarberry, both of Creston, and Brad Scarberry of Afton.

Ron was preceded in death by his father in 1977, step-father Ralph Johnson in 1998 and son Randy Madsen in 2001.
