Lady Mustangs fall in BGC semis

Lamoni claims Bluegrass title

ORIENT — Murray’s volleyball team advanced out of pool play in the Bluegrass Conference tournament Tuesday, but had its run come to an abrupt halt in a three-set sweep loss to Seymour in the semifinals Thursday.

Murray fell 25-17, 25-11, 25-21.

The Lady Mustangs (12-13), were led by Zoie Lecy’s eight kills. Bre Klein added four. Klein also added 11 digs.

Twila Barber, 12-12, Lecy, 10-10, and Klein, 9-10, combined to serve successfully on 31 of 32 serves.

Britta Callstrom had four aces and Twila Barber added five.

“We had trouble blocking at the net and digging the ball off of the floor this evening,” Murray coach Jerry Shields said. “Our serving was only 90 percent with no aces. We are finally starting to hit the ball more often instead of pushing the ball over the net. Now we just need to convert into points.”

Orient-Macksburg fell in consecutive matches in pool play Magainst Seymour and Diagonal on Tuesday 0-2, 0-2.

Diagonal fell to Seymour Monday 25-11, 25-12 and defeated O-M 25-18-, 25-19.

Murray starts postseason play Tuesday in Afton at 7 p.m. The winner of that game will play in Afton against the winner of Diagonal and Lamoni on Monday, Oct 23.
