Rod “Ironman” Abell, 63, of Orient died Wednesday, Sept. 13, 2017, at his home near Orient.
Celebration of life services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 16, at Powers Funeral Home, junction of highways 34 and 25, in Creston. Burial will be in Maple Hill Cemetery in Cromwell. The Rev. Mary O'Riley will officiate. Open visitation will be from 8 to 11 a.m. Saturday with family present from 9 to 11 a.m. prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials are to the family. Rodney Wayne Abell, son of Charles Herbert Abell II and Jesse Elizabeth (Dorsey), was born March 16, 1954, in Creston. He attended school in Cromwell and Creston, and graduated from Creston High School.
In 1976, Rod married Julie England, and they later divorced.
In 1993, Rod married Nancy Lynn Frink in Denver, Colorado. They lived in Creston and bought a farm in the Macksburg area. Due to Rod’s declining health, they moved to Orient. Rod worked for Rich Downing for 10 years, farmed and ran Ironman (Creston Recycling) for 25 years, retiring in 2014.
Rod is survived by his wife Nancy Abell of Orient; daughters, Elizabeth (Rex) Lewis of West Virginia and Heidi (Willie) Lemon of Osceola; sons, Charles (Desiree) Abell of Orient and Adam (Tonya) Abell of Creston; brothers, Jim (Mary Lou) Abell of Afton, Fred (Sharon) Abell of Cromwell and Steve Abell of Greenfield; sister-in-law Phyllis Abell of Golden, Colorado; mother-in-law Jan Frink of Creston; eight grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, three step-grandchildren and one step-great-granddaughter.
Rod was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Jesse; brothers, Joe Abell and Jackie Abell in infancy; grandparents and sister-in-law Irene Abell.
