Dale McDonald, 79, of the Creston and Afton areas, died Tuesday, May 2, 2017, at his daughter’s home in Winterset.
Celebration of life memorial services will be 3 p.m. Saturday, June 10, at Macksburg United Methodist Church in Macksburg. The Rev. Jim Morris will officiate. Burial will be in Moon Cemetery in rural Macksburg. Visitation with family present will be from 2 to 3 p.m. service time Saturday at the church. Memorials are directed to the family. Dale Reed McDonald, son of Johnson Reed McDonald and Viva Leona (Leach) McDonald, was born Feb. 8, 1938, in Afton. He was educated in Afton and graduated from Afton High School with the class of 1956. He attended Creston Junior College and advanced through the welding program there. Dale worked at Anderson-Erickson’s driving a milk route and also for Archway Cookie sales serving southwest Iowa and Missouri areas.
Dale was a long time resident of the Kansas City area where he worked management and maintenance for hotels and trailer parks. In 1999, he had a stroke and returned to the Creston and Afton areas.
Dale is survived by his daughters, Lana (Terry) Summers of Edgerton, Missouri, Gale (Rick) Vert of Winterset and Wendy Martin of Independence, Missouri; sons, Terry McDonald of Ferrelview, Missouri, Shawn (Kori) McDonald of Omaha, Nebraska, and Jimmy McDonald of Ferrelview, Missouri; 21 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; step-children, James, Melissa and Emma; sister Ruby Dibel of Creston and sisters-in-law, Beulah McDonald of Creston and Donna McDonald of Diagonal.
Dale was preceded in death by his parents; daughter Laurie McDonald O’Connor; brothers, Francis, LeRoy, LaVern, JR, Dean and Wayne McDonald and sisters, Leona Kirkland, Eleanor Hammons and Bonnie Pulliam.
