Jerry Barton, 73, of Corning died Saturday, April 29, 2017, at University of Iowa Hospital in Iowa City.

Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, May 4, at Pearson Family Funeral Service and Cremation Center, 701 Seventh St., in Corning with the Rev. Ray McCalla officiating. Inurnment will be at a later date in Walnut Grove Cemetery in Corning. Open visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, May 3, with family present from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Jerry Gene Barton, son of Marion Charles and Nellie Marie (Walton) Barton, was born July 2, 1943, in Knoxville. Jerry’s father was killed in an accident when Jerry was 2, and the family moved to Centerville. In 1952, they moved to Corning where Jerry finished the third grade and went on to graduate from Corning High School with the class of 1961. Upon graduating, he started working for Pierce Construction Company out of Clear Lake.

In June 1962, Jerry married Phyllis Costin at the Corning Christian Church. They had two children, and later divorced. Jerry owned and operated his own construction company until his retirement in 2009. He also started Colony Concession Inc., which is the marina and beach concession at Corning’s Lake Icaria. Jerry also had a cow-calf herd for a time.

Jerry is survived by his sons, J.C. Barton of Corning and Corey (Tonia) Barton of Corning; grandchildren, Lyndsay, Mackenzie, Drey, Zach and Gage Barton; special friend Susan Pollard of Fontanelle; sister Dorthea (Pete) Riley of Corning; brother Jim (Bonnie) Barton of Carl; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Jerry was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Walter and Wayne; sisters, Peg Chitty, Frances Montegna and infant Carol and sister-in-law Olive Barton.
